Nancy Lawrence and Gail Long go back a long time to 29 years ago when Nancy was choir director at Union and hired Gail to be the organist. Gail Long received her bachelor's degree in music from McKendree University and her master's in piano performance from SIUE. Nancy is a graduate of Asbury College. The program will include Poulenc Sonata and the C.S. Theme and Variations. They will play a Mozart Sonata plus a few lighter things. A freewill offering will be taken.

In recent years, a new specialty of medicine has emerged called the “Hospitalist.” These are physicians who specialize in caring for patients during their stay in a hospital. Because these physicians are based in the hospital, they are available throughout the day for admissions and emergencies. Shelly Harkins, M.D., Hospitalist at St. Elizabeth’s, will be presenting information on What is a Hospitalist and the benefits to patients. Convenient parking is available in the Southern Illinois Heart Institute building parking lot (340 West Lincoln).  No reservations are needed for this free program but seating is limited to 75 people. Refreshments provided.

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the American Red Cross wants you to “Rock and Roll up Your Sleeves” during this summer by donating blood. Every presenting donor will receive a special rocker-style t-shirt and the chance to win an authentic Lynyrd Skynard platinum album. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are suggested. Appointments can be made by phone by calling 618-234-2120, ext. 1374 or through the Red Cross’ online appointment setting feature. IDs are required to donate blood. Bike Rodeo

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, SIHI Parking Lot

The event’s goal is to spotlight the importance of bike safety for the whole family, especially children. HelmetsFirst will be providing a Bike Safety Course for children ages 11 and under. The first 200 children to complete the course will receive a FREE bike helmet. Children should bring their own bikes. Other events planned for the day include a Car Seat Safety Check, displays from various hospital departments including the Emergency Room, Radiology, and Neurosurgery. St. Elizabeth’s Child Care Center will have a tri-cycle course for the smaller aged children. Tour de Belleville will also have a registration booth for their upcoming event. The first 100 people to register will receive a commemorative Tour de Belleville water bottle. Other attendees include Belleville Poilce Department’s DNA identification and D.A.R.E. wagon, Belleville Fire Department’s fire house drill plus Pluggy the Fireplug,  MedStar Ambulance Services and Bicycle World. Bicycle World will be performing bike tune-ups. Participants can also register to win one of several new bikes, attendance prizes and giveaways.
